This installation project, A Women's Wailing Wall, was constructed at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, CT, during the Women's Studies Conference on Women, War & Peace. The surrounding photos are from this project.
I spent most of the day building a wall of ice. Meditations and prayers gathered from women all over the world, reflecting on war and peace, were imbedded in the wall. There was grass seed in between the blocks of ice to keep them from slipping. During the course of the conference, and beyond, the wall melted and watered and seeded the grass. The translucent character of the ice and the melting are symbols for tears. The "tears" of the wall will nurture the seed and life will emerge in the Spring from the meditations and prayers contained in the wall.
